Since May 2011

My name is Katie and I love Zumba!

I teach students of all shapes and sizes, from the preschooler with special needs to the elite athlete.

My professional background is in Physical Therapy and my dance background is in competitive acrobatics.  I am certified by the AFAA in Primary Group Fitness.  My current level of fitness has been attained through years of intensive training, followed by rehabilitation of two debilitating knee injuries.  Thanks to Zumba, I am the healthiest I have ever been in 40 years.  I strive to share that with my students.

My Basic classes are high intensity interval cardio workouts.  I provide layers of choreography for lower intensity, low impact options to accommodate students of all fitness levels.  If modifications are desired due to specific health conditions (ie, low back injuries, knee injuries, etc) please tell me before class begins and I will be happy to provide safe alternatives.

My Toning classes are moderate intensity interval cardio workouts combined with mild to moderate strength training.  Toning sticks and/or hand weights are optional.  Some facilities provide weights to use on a first come, first served basis.  To ensure that you have the appropriate size, it is recommended that you bring your own weights, 2 pounds or less each.  Toning sticks are not provided, but you may bring your own.

My Gold classes are low intensity cardio workouts combined with mild balance and coordination training.  They are suitable for anyone who prefers a lighter workout, or anyone who needs more extensive accommodations.  They are designed to permit a smooth transition to my Basic classes, if such a progression is desired by the student.

My Kids classes are fun, variable intensity cardio workouts combined with structured activities.  Each class focuses on a specific music genre and is accompanied by a relevant gross motor skill-building game.  Inclusion classes are offered to children with special needs whenever possible.  If inclusion is not feasible, a small group class of 2-4 students with similar characteristics may be an appropriate option.

I am well qualified to offer individual and small group classes to clients with special needs, including but not limited to: autism, mental illness, orthopedic impairments, and cognitive limitations.
